Interview with a 3-year-old

It has been a long time since I have done this. It never ceases to be hilarious. Once again, it is a live interview, I type as we talk. Word-for-word answers here people.

Me: Hi Gibson, how are you doing?

Gibson: Nothing. What?! I'm just watching this funny show!

Me: Ok, geesh. So how was your day?

Gibson: Um, a good day.

Me: What was your favorite part of the day?

Gibson: Favorite part of what day? Kroger you mean?

Me: Sure.

Gibson: Um, my favorite part of Kroger was looking at the car carts.

*break in interview because a fight broke out between Gibson and Maya*
*slapping in the face, crying, screaming...and time-outs*

Me: Are you excited about going to your Tuesday School in September?

Gibson: Am I going today?!!!! I wanna go today!

Me: Well, it will be a few weeks away. But what do you think will be fun about school?

Gibson: To go in the new school where I will have a class where there is a toy with a spinny thing, and a game, and some crayons!!! We went to see that school with Kate and Haven.

Me: You're right we did go there and see all of those things.

Gibson: Can we go now? I'm big enough! Let me go get my shoes!

Me: Well honey, it's late, and we're not going today. It is a few weeks away. I am glad you're excited about it though!

Gibson: Am I going today Mommy? I DO want to go when it's dark! We can go right now!

*looks out the window to see how dark it is*

Gibson: Aw, I miss my Daddy. I really, really miss my Daddy.

OK, the interview is now over because I'm pretty sure we will talk about nothing other than the school, and whether it's today! It's today Mom! Can I go today Mommy?! So do you think he is excited about this school thing? He will only be going one day a week for 2.5 hours. He seriously is about to burst. I don't know what he'll do when it's actually time! This is the topic of practically every conversation these days.
As far as that last line goes, Phil just left 5 minutes ago to go to the store. You'd never guess it with Gibson's dramatic expressions though...as though he's been gone for days.

feeling sentimental

I love going to Cox Arboretum. It has been one of my favorite places for years, and it is even where Phil proposed. I also take the kids there every year for birthday pictures. Anyway! We went there yesterday and I took them back to the very spot that Daddy proposed. I hadn't been back on those trails for a couple of years, and had never taken the kids back there. It was great and got me all sappy and sentimental watching the kids play at the very spot where Daddy was on his knee. These pictures just don't do it justice. They are draining the pond right now, so it looks a little down and out. But it is tucked in the back of a huge field of trails, tall grass, and wildflowers. It is a beautiful little treasure. Here it is:

Can you see it in there?

The kids. Gibson kept saying, "Mommy, I'm engaged!":

Phil had pictures, flowers, and candles everywhere. This is where he was on his knee:

This whole dock was lined with candles:

oh my

Today Gibson was sitting at the table eating lunch. He accidently knocked his lunch off of the table, so I went over to help him clean it up. Then he said, so seriously from his little heart, "Mom, I love you. You're my best hero."

And then I melted into a pool on the floor.

get out!

I truly mean no offense if you are a James Blunt fan...but good gravy that guy's voice grates on me. And it has been everywhere today! First this morning, he was on Sesame Street. Yes, that's right. He was singing, "my triangle, my triangle, its you" instead of, "you're beautiful". He is just one strange and awkward guy. He gets this far away glassy look when he sings. Now, I'm all for artistic expression and believing in your music, but while you're singing "my triangle"? Anyway! This afternoon I was strolling through Kroger enjoying my first time out without children in a week (Phil has been out of town) when I heard it come on, loud and clear over the speakers. Agh! Now here I sit, it's after midnight, and I'm singing "You're Beautiful" and I'm thoroughly annoyed. So maybe I will just sing it to Phil in my mock James Blunt voice. Then it will surely be in his head and I won't be alone.

summer dress

Over the winter I purchased this fabric, as well as another of the same style, and totally forgot about them! I found them a few weeks ago and I finally got around to sewing them today. I knew it would only take a few minutes to whip them up, and they turned out so cute. Here is my favorite:

The best part is that these will definitely work for next year (I made them a bit loose and long on purpose). I could even get another year out I think if I just add a band of fabric on the bottom. Total cost for a dress that will last 3 or more summers: $3.00!
